Women drivers and conductors for SLTB buses
Deputy transport Minister Rohana Dissanayake said yesterday there were
moves to employ women drivers and conductors in Sri Lanka Transport
Board (SLTB) buses so as to instill some form of discipline on the
roads.
He further said such services were being carried out on an experimental basis in Colombo and the suburbs.
Mr. Dissanayake said this proposal was being mooted because women comprised a majority in Sri Lanka and it would also help introduce a disciplined service.
“Women are known to be more patient and kind,” he said and added that it would turn out to be a success because most countries have employed women in this sector.
Mr. Dissanayake said if it worked out successfully then women could be employed in other transport-related sectors as well.
